“Be wise and taste.” – Shakespeare

Each year our tasting panel reviews several hundred wines from the finest boutique wineries in the world, selecting a limited quantity of the most exceptional and unique achievements by celebrated artisan winemakers. Because we work exclusively with small, boutique wineries, each wine in our portfolio is typically only available through Vino Virtuoso.

Our current selection of wines is subject to change as our limited quantities sell out and as our tasting panel discovers new extraordinary wines to complement our portfolio. Starting at $15, all of our wines are priced affordably, with special discounts offered at Tastings.

Moletto Long Charmat Prosecco, NV

Veneto, Italy

composition

100% Long Charmat Prosecco

Food Pairings

Chicken, creamy cheeses, chocolate

What our tasting panel says

Crafted meticulously in accordance with the “long Charmat” method, this elegant sparkling wine represents Moletto’s finest Prosecco. Youthful, fruity and aromatic, it’s a delightful, uplifting aperitif for any special occasion.

About this wine

An elegant ambassador from the hillsides of the tiny but distinguished winemaking region of Veneto (just north of Venice), Prosecco is an exceedingly fresh, youthful, and fruity sparkling wine. Though less familiar than its more austere and biting French cousin—the Champagne—the Prosecco has been enjoyed as far back as ancient Roman times.

Wine expert Robert M. Parker gushed of the Prosecco: “For pure delicacy, elegance and freshness, the best Proseccos are the finest sparkling wine values in the world.” We agree, especially in the case of this superior example! Created by the family-owned Moletto estate, this fine non-vintage Prosecco was carefully handcrafted using the arduous “long Charmat” fermentation method in order to capture the maximum amount of freshness and fruit.

Barn d’Or Chardonnay, 2008

Monterey, California

composition

100% Unoaked Chardonnay

Food Pairings

Chicken, scallops, fresh fish

What our tasting panel says

Monterey grapes in the hands of a celebrated Sonoma winemaker. This perfect illustration of unoaked California Chardonnay exudes fresh tropical and pear flavors. Light, bright and pure, this wine is a true California treasure.

About this wine

If there is one word to describe this endearing California Chardonnay, it would be this: pure. With its crisp, fresh pear flavors and tropical notes of mango, melon and peach, this lovely wine remains untouched by oak barrels, a decision that has carefully preserved the intricate flavors and aromas of the delicate Chardonnay grapes. Sourced from the cool coastal hills of Monterey County, the Chardonnay grapes that produced this wine have a much richer and more tropical character than the fruit grown in Napa and Sonoma, which typically contain more citric-like flavors. The end result of this wine is an innocent, natural and captivating expression of the exotic allure of Monterey Chardonnay.

The Jumper Sauvignon Blanc, 2009

Marlborough, New Zealand

composition

100% Sauvignon Blanc

Food Pairings

Fresh fish, shellfish, salads, goat cheese

What our tasting panel says

With its crisp and subtly dry style, this traditional Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc suggests tangy gooseberry and racy herbaceous flavors. Truly, this is a fresh and lively creation.

About this wine

Now considered to produce the finest Sauvignon Blanc on the planet, the Marlborough region of New Zealand, which until recently was relatively unknown, has taken the wine world by storm. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Marlborough’s winemakers should be quite proud of themselves: producers in France, where the “noble” grape originated, are now emulating the style of their New Zealand counterparts.

A classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc produced with 100% Wairau Valley grapes, this wine was artfully crafted by James MacDonald, the nephew and protégé of Jane Hunter, who was dubbed by The London Times as the “First Lady of New Zealand Wine.” The wine has won multiple awards at international wine competitions and has gained recognition from Wine Enthusiast and Winestate Magazine.

Count us among the many adoring fans of Guy Davis, the storied artisan winemaker who crafted this masterpiece at his family’s winery in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma. Cantine Lunae Botini Vermentino, 2009

Colli di Luni, Italy

composition

100% Vermentino

Food Pairings

Fresh seafood, pesto pasta, vegetable dishes

What our tasting panel says

Considered worldwide as one of the finest expressions of Ligurian Vermentino, this white wine is fresh and harmonious with hints of wild flowers and rich flavors of honey, green apple, melon and lime. Especially suited to seafood dishes, Vermentino has an exquisite ability to refine over time.

About this wine

Vermentino is a grape primarily grown along the Mediterranean coast and most famous for its floral aromatics, pronounced minerality, and smooth tropical fruit flavors. The smallest wine producing region in the country, Liguria is widely considered to produce the finest (and rarest) Vermentinos in the world.

For over 5 generations, the Bosoni family, who are the owners and operators of Cantine Lunae, have crafted classic Italian wines renowned in Italy and beyond. Montal Garnacha, 2007

Jumilla, Spain

composition

100% Garnacha (or Grenache)

Food Pairings

Roasted pork, beef stew, mushroom salad

What our tasting panel says

As Richard Nalley of Food and Wine once put it: “Spain is the source of some of the world’s most astonishing wines—many of the best come from regions most of us have never heard of.” This Garnacha from the ancient region of Jumilla certainly fits the bill. The wine produces a beautiful cherry hue, aromas of dark plum, and a tapestry of bold cherry and ripe blackberry flavors, all followed by a spiced finish.

About this wine

While the French have used the Grenache grape to great effect in their famous Southern Rhone blends, where Grenache is the dominant varietal, it attains its perfection in the country of its origin: Spain. This wine’s grapes were grown in the Jumilla region on a high-elevation plateau surrounded by mountains, a location that provides the aridity, boundless sunshine and lengthy summers that are required for the late-ripening Grenache to attain its optimum levels of fruitiness.

Experts value Spanish Grenache for its concentrated, spicy berry flavors as well as its soft, light texture on the palate. Created by the Pago de Montal winery’s Roquetta family, who have been producing wines in Spain for over 110 years, this wine is a perfect illustration of how easily enjoyable a Spanish Grenache can be.

Andrew Lane Petite Sirah, 2007

Napa Valley, California

composition

83% Petite Sirah

17% Zinfandel

Food Pairings

Steak, lamb, pot roast, barbeque

What our tasting panel says

Aromas of wild blackberry, white pepper and rose petals adorn this lush-ripe wine. On the palate, expect medium acidity transitioning to deep blueberry undertones. Softly grained tannins and a long savory finish provide a delightful polish to this California masterpiece.

About this wine

Because it tends to be bold and extra fruity, people who love big red wines have a serious passion for Petite Sirah, a wine with an incongruous name because there is nothing “petite” about it. Featuring prized grapes from some of the finest vineyards in the Napa Valley, this Petite Sirah is loaded with lush black fruit, tangy spices and fine, chewy tannins—perfect for any meal with a savory red meat.

Since Andrew Dickson took over the reins of his parents’ winery, the now famous Andrew Lane Winery has won a plethora of awards and has garnered the attention of prestigious wine publications, including The Wall Street Journal, which wrote a resounding review of this particular 2007 Petite Sirah.

En Tiempo Malbec, 2005

Monterey, California

composition

100% Malbec

Food Pairings

Roast beef, barbeque, lamb kebobs, pasta marinara

What our tasting panel says

An audaciously fruit-driven wine with flavors of tangy cherry and notes of cocoa on the finish, this California interpretation of Argentina’s darling grape is an absolute thrill.

About this wine

The Malbec grape has garnered significant attention in the wine world over the past decade, with recent sales growth in the U.S. outpacing nearly every other varietal. Encouraged by the enormous success Argentina’s winemakers have experienced with the grape, Malbec plantings have become increasingly popular in other regions of the world that share in the warm, dry climate of Argentina. California—and the Monterey region in particular—have created highly respectable Malbecs that have posed significant challenges to Argentina’s preeminence. This 2005 En Tiempo Malbec is among those pushing the envelope. Surely one of the greatest illustrations of California Malbec, this wine is everything a fine Malbec should be: fruity, spicy, bold, and unwavering.

Pacific Estates Lustful Marriage, 2007

Paso Robles, California

composition

42% Zinfandel

40% Petite Sirah

18% Cabernet Franc

Food Pairings

Savory beef, lamb, pasta marinara, chocolate

What our tasting panel says

It’s love at first sip! With its dense aromas of earth and cinnamon, hints of currant and licorice, and notes of vanilla and black pepper, this 100% estate-grown blend is an irresistible marriage of sugar and spice.

About this wine

The 2007 Lustful Marriage is an estate-grown blend from the coveted vineyards of Pacific Estates in Paso Robles, California. Aged in French oak for 6 months, it is a jammy and extracted wine that is remarkable for its sultry coupling of sugar and spice.

The name of the wine, Lustful Marriage, is a nod to the seductive synergies that winemaker Dennis Yeast feels exist when the sweet, spicy and light Zinfandel meets the dark, rich and firm Petite Sirah—a combination further enhanced by the inclusion of Cabernet Franc, which adds elegant, smooth acids and extra spicy aromatics. Trust us: you‘ll fall in love with this one!
